Understanding Complications & Interventions in Hospital Birth (4-6 hours, Saturday class)
When labor gets complicated: fetal distress, failure to progress, shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage. Understanding interventions: induction, pitocin, fetal monitoring, vaginal exams, episiotomy, assisted delivery, cesarean section, amniotomy, pain medications. Decision making with your B.R.A.I.N.
Exploring Home Birth
An open forum discussion about choosing homebirth. In most classes we will have at least one local midwife available to meet and answer questions about midwifery. We will discuss midwifery training, credentials, and homebirth safety statistics, and outcomes. There will also be a quick review of the growing trend of unassisted birth.
The Fourth Trimester
Immediate postpartum, newborn transition and maternal adaptations; feeding choices (breast and bottle), starting off healthy. Baby blues, postpartum mood disorders. Bonding, normal newborn behavior. Visitors after the birth, creating a postpartum plan and a healing atmosphere. Your new body.
